As one of the busiest specialty surgery hospitals in the nation, Stanislaus Surgical Hospital needs a backup array that is reliable, fast and secure. In addition to acute surgical care, Stanislaus provides a wide range of diagnostic imaging services including Diagnostic X-Ray, MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Bone Density and Mammography - and this state-of-the-art technology requires a data storage solution that is up to the task.
"My experience with Cybernetics has been all positive."
The Hospital investigated multiple options before choosing Cybernetics' SAN solution. "I researched OpenFiler, OpenNAS, Gluster, Equallogic, NetApp and Drobo," says Alonzo Brown, Manager of Information Services. But a key drawback with these options was support: "There is limited support for the offerings. All proprietary solutions nickel and dime you to death with the licensing of features." The deciding factor for Brown was "Bang for the buck!!!!" Cybernetics provided the features the Hospital needed at a price far below the competitors'. "My presales engineer was extremely knowledgeable about the Cybernetics solutions and about SAN technology in general. This gave me a sounding board for some of my deployment ideas and I feel they are really here for me."
The best feature so far? "Ease of use. We simply don't have the resources for a complicated solution. My SAN simply has to work." As the primary full-time IT personnel, Brown says, "I don't have days to get this up and running. I was able to install and configure both SANs and begin replication in a single day along with my other responsibilities." And Cybernetics' support has been "'Johnny on the Spot'. I will admit I've not needed to call support for much more than to get answers to simple questions, but I've never been able to stump them and have always received the most relevant advice."
Stanislaus Surgical now maintains two 16TB SANs at their main location and two 24TB SANs in a redundant array at a second location, providing efficient, scalable block-level storage and fast transfer rates of up to 500MB per second throughput, and Brown couldn't be happier with performance. "The best thing I can say is that Cybernetics is a 'No Brainer'. If you're in the market for a SAN that is feature-rich, fast, with reliable support, then there is no other product I would recommend than Cybernetics."
