February 17, 2004, Yorktown, Virginia – Cybernetics has announced the immediate availability of HP StorageWorks compatible AIT tape drives. Ready to install into a single 1.6" hot plug bay of HP Proliant and AlphaServer systems, these new AIT tape drive models offer exceptional performance and capacity for high availability servers.
HP's innovative hot plug backplane design supports high availability, conserves space, and reduces the number of controllers required for supporting disk and tape storage devices. Cybernetics' AIT tape drives are fully integrated into hot swappable drive trays to connect directly to the hot plug backplane. Users can install, remove and replace Cybernetics AIT tape drives into hot plug bays without disrupting the server or any other device on the bus. Devices are automatically detected at installation, and are completely accessible and functional without booting the server. Even if a backup job is interrupted, standard ARCserve backup software will automatically reschedule the backup once the tape drive is replaced into the hot plug bay.
With an exceptional capacity in an extremely small form factor, AIT is particularly well suited for the hot plug bay of HP's very high-density rack servers. And with the highest rated MTBF in the industry of 400,000 hours at 100% duty cycle, AIT drives have a proven track record of truly outstanding reliability for the most demanding high availability requirements. AIT drives feature a Memory-In-Cassette technology using a memory chip embedded into every data cartridge, facilitating faster loads, unloads, and locates. Depending on compression, Cybernetics AIT-3 drives store 100-300 GB on a single tape, and AIT-2 drives store 50-150 GB on each tape.
